Three short stories of crime and punishment.
In A LIVING, a solitary man contemplates life and death and thinks about exactly what it takes to make a living. This story was shortlisted for the Quick Reads 'Get Britain Reading' prize.
Two bored detectives investigate an unattended death in KITTY. The only witnesses were a harmless old lady and her cat, so it looks like an open-and-shut case. As a quiet afternoon escalates into an ordeal of dreamlike terror, the detectives discover how wrong you can be.
And finally, in A JOB WORTH DOING, a repair man providing a discreet service to a niche market thinks he's discovered a way to make some easy money from death.

A Living Three Stories About Killers edition by Gavin Bell Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
What I liked about these three stories was that they were well written but in their own way they were all very different.A Living was that stream of consciousness introspection. Kitty a macabre tale of the occult and the best in my opinion was A Job Worth Doing.
The writer uses enough description to paint the setting and characters but still leaves plenty to the reader's imagination. The gradual increase in tension and fear in Kitty is written and works well.
Barnaby in A Job Worth Doing has an unusual and less than mainstream occupation and I'm sure there are people out there who do it and use his services. The quotes from his mother are effective and the character is well drawn. Very imaginative and a great idea for the writer to touch and hint at this hidden world.
I could easily see the stories in particular A Job Worth Doing as old black & white Twilight Zone, Tales of the Unexpected type tales so the writer deserves credit for this.
I enjoy stories of this length and this was well worth the read.
