On September 11, 2002, the crew of an AC130H Spectre gunship prowls the dark skies over Afghanistan, searching for a glimmer of celebratory gunfire on the one-year anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
Failure to Fire tells the story of Airman First Class Stephen Kubiak's first combat deployment to Afghanistan. Kubiak, having just turned 20, is thrust onto the battlefield with only five days separating the completion of his aerial gunner training to touching down at Karshi-Khanabad, Uzbekistan.
As a young gunner assigned to 16th Special Operations Squadron, Kubiak faces the challenges of fitting in with the rest of the crew as their play hard, party hard ways are foreign to the “baby gunner.”
Failure to Fire eBook Stephen Kubiak
This as a tribute to the togetherness of a combat unit when on a mission. In the beginning, as the flyers wait between missions, the young rookie gunner is bedeviled by the grizzled veterans. By the end, everyone in the plane is equal and working together despite the differences in age, experience, and lifestyles, and the 20-year veteran sergeants are trustworthy comrades. Very well written. Makes you feel like you were there.Product details

Failure to Fire eBook Stephen Kubiak Reviews
Probably only of interest to the same kinds of people who would want to read the memoirs of members of Mussolini's Italian 10th Army as they invaded Egypt. Not particularly well-written, it really has no redeeming features to speak of. The author never struggles over the point of the war, the morality of killing, the deaths of innocents, or anything else of the sort. This is the kind of tale you'd hear from some drunk veteran in a bar trying to relive his glory days, pick up women or just inflate his ego with the help of a little good old fashion American patriotism.
I thought after reading the other reviews I was in for s goof read. Don't be fooled. This book amounts to exactly 21 pages on the kindle, an absolute joke. I suspect the other reviews are from friends of the author, what a waste of my time!
Great story, especially for those who enlisted and deployed at a young age. The story focuses on "gunners", but provides insight into the experiences of a military deployment that you don't see on a recruiter's pamphlet
This gunner sounds like the ultimate pussy!
Though short this is a poignant memoir by a modern USAF Specter gunship cream and experiences and troubles in service.
